Beth Schwartzman to speak at Tri-State Camp Conference on March 13

Come hear Beth Schwartzman, of Healthy Camper speak about nutrition at camps at the Tri-State Camp Conference in Atlantic City, NJ on Wednesday March 13. Here is a sneak peak at what she will be presenting:
Healthy Diet Healthy Camp
Wednesday, March 13, 8:30 AM – 9:45 AM
During the school year kids are served approximately 180 lunches that are regulated and approved by a dietitian to meet strict standards, but yet during the 49 days of residential camp, we serve well over 200 meals and snacks that are not.
With the current state of obesity in our country, the subsequent rise of type 2 diabetes and the concerns of parents towards food allergies and sensitivities, what are camps to do?
This session with delve into the concerns of how to create an inclusive environment for your campers and keep them safe and healthy. For some these meals are the best opportunity to teach healthy habits that will last a lifetime, for others this is a true concern of life and death.
How can your camp be better at creating this atmosphere and creating a liaison for the parents to the health staff and kitchen?
How can your camp better prepare itself for what lies ahead with these children, and not turn them away for fear of stress on the current staff.
Speakers:
Beth Schwartzman – Registered Dietitian / Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist – Certified Diabetes Educator, Healthy Camper – A division of Inspiration Nutrition
Objectives:
- Better understanding on how to incorporate children with special diet needs at camp.
- How to realistically meet these needs while not turning away any business or breaking the bank
- How to create a systems approach to reassuring the parents and teaching the staff, along with working alongside your current medical staff to create a safe and healthy environment.
